Eagle Charge for Adam Brien

 

t was not so long ago that I stood in this room to give an Eagle charge to a young man who had earned the rank of Eagle.  That young man was Josh Brien; I am honored once again to issue a challenge--the Eagle Charge-- to another very worthy young man--Adam Brien, Josh's brother. 

 

Adam:

 

When you joined the ranks of the Boy Scouts of America, you began a long journey -- one that began as a boy and ends as a man.

 

During that journey, you learned many things as a Scout:

 

• You learned how to pitch a tent; plan and cook a meal; how to pack for a camping trip. 
• You learned about First Aid
• You learned how to hike and find your way with map and compass
• You learned to care for the environment
• You learned that you can build useful things from twine and scraps of timber. 
• You investigated many concepts and skills by earning your merit badges.

 

And you learned many other skills too numerous to name.

 

But Adam, there are other things you have learned as well:

 

• You've learned the value of positive thinking
• You've learned how to respect others' feelings and beliefs
• You've learned how to challenge yourself and to think for yourself
• You've learned that kindness begets kindness
• You've learned that the best way to have a friend is to be a friend
• You've learned the value of honesty, hard work, and the integrity that follows it
• You have seen and learned the value of teamwork
• You developed and learned the value of strong family ties
• And you've learned that you can achieve any goal that you want if you really work at it.

 

Adam, we are all very proud of what you have achieved in Scouting and so I will leave you with your charge as an Eagle:

 

Take these things that you have learned; live them in your life so that you may be an example to others, and when your time as a father comes, teach them to your children.
