Scoutmaster update

Chuck attended a meeting for Eagle Scouts and Terry updated the committee in his absence. The PLC recently developed a competition between patrols. There is scoring and tabulations with winners involved and this process is still in its infancy however ask your scouts about it. Some of the categories involve are; games, advancements, uniforms, attendance.

Terry asked the committee how they thought the troop was running and the charter rep stated that everything seems to be moving forward and that he has not had any complaints. Some ideas to continue to look at are:

The next COH is August 31 (this is a change from what is listed on the website calendar).

The committee feels that Chuck is doing a nice job in moving the troop in the right direction. Thanks Chuck!

New/Urgent Business

Troop Family Picnic is being planned for Sunday September 27th @ 1pm, location Durant Nature Park in Raleigh. Sheri Colquitt and others are in the planning phase. Anyone interested in helping contact Sheri. Flyer attached in e-mail.

Aug 22-23 the church is holding a stewardship fair prior to and after masses. The Pack and Troop will have a table to display scouting principles. This will need to be staffed by the troop and parents. We need to create a visual display and the recommendation is that the scouts plan this display possibly at a meeting.

Treasurer report

Donna shared the budget in her absence with Terry and he reviewed it with the committee. Jean will find out from Donna why the recharter fees don’t align with budget and update Terry. The NYTL funds will be refunded as the scouts did not attend that were waitlisted.

Outdoor Activities

Mr. Campbell is helping transition Mr. Dompka as he is learning his role as the outings coordinator. Neither one were able to be at the meeting. The website calendar states September outing as Mt. Rogers and this will actually be at Camp Campbell instead.

Ways and Means

Kaye Poole is still selling grocery cards and a percentage of the sale goes into a scouts account

Terry went over the Christmas tree sale, GS troop that sold last year is not invited back because they did not pay the vendor and did not staff the booth. We will ask the GS troop at St. Raphael if they would like to sell wreaths and garland. The church will be asking the troop to obtain insurance to cover property and injury coverage. We agree that is a logical request. The tree stands sold really well last year and the number will be doubled. We are also going to try out selling small potted trees this year. In 2008, we ordered 296 trees and anticipate selling around the same amount. The dates planned for this are December 3-6.

St Raphael Fair is planned for Sept 11-12. The scouts will be in charge of working the arcade area. The troop will also help with the request to collect old American Flags for proper retirement.
