Troop Leadership Positions
⭐ Troop 314 currently elects Leaders every 6 months ⭐
Scouts in troop leadership positions should always set a good example. They wear their uniforms correctly, and live by the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. Leadership positions (Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leaders, and Assistant Patrol Leaders) are held for six months, and generally only Scouts who have achieved the rank of First Class may hold leadership positions. QUALIFICATIONS FOR LEADERSHIP POSITIONS:
Attend at least 50% of the outings / Troop meetings.
Rank of First Class or above (exceptions can occur).
Live by the Scout Oath and Law.
Set a good example for other Scouts.
Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) - Elected
Responsible to: Scoutmaster
Specific Duties:
Preside at all troop meetings, events, activities, and annual program planning conference.
Chair the patrol leaders' council (PLC).
Name appointed boy leaders with the advice and consent of the Scoutmaster.
Assign duties and responsibilities to other leaders.
Work with Scoutmaster in training junior leaders.

Senior Patrol Leader should have completed JLTC (Junior Leadership Training Conference) prior to assuming this position if it has been offered in our area.
Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) - Elected
Responsible to: SPL
Specific Duties:
Be responsible for training and giving direct leadership to the following appointed junior leaders: troop guide, historian, quartermaster, webmaster, scribe, and chaplains aide.
Help with leading meetings and activities as called upon by the senior patrol leader.
Take over troop leadership in the absence of the senior patrol leader.
Perform tasks assigned by the senior patrol leader. Function as a member of the patrol leaders' council (PLC).

Patrol Leader - Elected
Responsible to: ASPL
Specific Duties:
Plan and lead patrol meetings and activities.
Keep patrol members informed.
Assign each patrol member a job and help them succeed. Know what the patrol members and other leaders can do.
Represent the patrol at all patrol leaders' council (PLC) meetings and at the annual program planning conference.
Prepare the patrol to take part in all troop activities.
Develop patrol spirit.
Work with other troop leaders to make the troop run well.

Assistant Patrol Leader - Elected
Responsible to: ASPL
Specific Duties:
Assist the patrol leader in planning and leading patrol meetings and activities.
Keeping patrol member informed.
Preparing their patrol to take part in all troop activities.
Take charge of the patrol in the absence of the patrol leader.
Represent the patrol at all patrol leaders council (PLC) meetings in the absence of the patrol leader.
Help develop patrol spirit.
Work with other troop leaders to make the troop run well.

Quartermaster - Appointed
Responsible to: ASPL
Specific Duties:
Keep records of patrol and troop equipment.
Issue equipment and see that it is returned in good order.
Suggest new or replacement items.

Troop Guide - Appointed
Responsible to: ASM - New Scout Patrol
Specific Duties:
Help Scouts meet advancement requirements through First Class.
Advise patrol leader on his duties and his responsibilities at the patrol leaders' council meetings. Attend patrol leaders' council meetings with the new Scout patrol leader.
Prevent harassment of new Scouts by older Scouts.
Help assistant Scoutmaster train new patrol leader when he is elected.
Guide new Scout though early troop experiences to help them become comfortable in the troop and the outdoors.

Troop Scribe - Appointed
Responsible to: ASPL
Specific Duties:
Attend and keep a log of patrol leaders' council (PLC) meetings.
Record attendance as required.
Maintain troop correspondence (thank you notes, donation requests, etc.)
Work with appropriate troop committee members responsible for finance, records and advancement as needed.

Troop Historian - Appointed
Responsible to: ASPL
Specific Duties:
Gather pictures and facts about past activities of the troop and keep them in the Scout Blog or scrapbooks, wall displays, and information files.
Take care of troop trophies and keepsakes.
Keep information about troop alumni.

Chaplin Aide - Appointed
Responsible to: ASPL
Specific Duties:
Assists the Troop chaplain with religious services at Troop activities.
Tells Scouts about the religious emblem program for their faith.
Makes sure religious holidays are considered during the Troop program planning process.
Helps plan for religious observance in Troop activities.
Sets the example, wears the uniform correctly, lives by the Scout Oath and Law, and shows Scout spirit.
Den Chief - Appointed
Responsible to: ASPL
Specific Duties:
To work with the Cub Scouts, Webelos Scouts, and the adult leaders in Pack 314 to help make the Pack successful and recruit future scouts for the troop.
Knows the purpose of Cub Scouting and helps the Cub Scouts have fun and successfully achieve the goals of the Dens.
Help Cub Scouts learn about Scouting and important skills to encourage Cubs to join the Troop upon graduation.
Serve as activities assistant at selected Den or Pack Meetings or activities.
Will meet as needed with the adult members of Dens, Pack and Troop.

Outdoor Ethics Guide - Appointed
Responsible to: ASPL
Specific Duties:
Works to advance the Leave No Trace Program within the Troop.
Teaches Troop and Patrol members the principles of Leave No Trace, and helps improve Scouts’ outdoor ethics decision-making skills.
Helps minimize the impact on environment by teaching and helping the Troop practice the principles of Leave No Trace.
Help Scouts earn the Leave No Trace award.
Sets the example, wears the uniform correctly, lives by the Scout Oath and Law, and shows Scout spirit.
Webmaster - Appointed
Responsible to: ASPL
Specific Duties:
Work with various unit members on needed topics for the Troop website.
Ensure the Troop Web site is as youth-run as possible.
Help out with the Troop Web site.
Works with appropriate troop committee members responsible for the Troop website.
Sets the example, wears the uniform correctly, lives by the Scout Oath and Law, and shows Scout spirit.
