PACK 314 PINEWOOD DERBY / BLUE & GOLD BANQUET:
When: Friday, January 31-February 1, 2025 (Various Times)
Location: St. Raphael Catholic Church
Signup: Here
The Pack 314 Cub Scouts are asking for our skill and expertise regarding the celebration of two exciting events: The Pinewood Derby and The Blue & Gold Banquet.
In case you aren't familar, the Pinewood Derby is an annual event for Cub Scouts. Cub Scouts build wooden cars with their families and race them down a gravity-driven track. The Pinewood Derby promotes character development through sportsmanship.
Following the Pinewood Derby is a very special banquet to commemorate the founding of Scouting, February 8, 1910. It is also a time to thank pack leaders and other adults who have helped the pack, and inspire the leaders, Scouts, and parents.
BOTANICAL TRAIL CREATION:
When: Saturday March 1, 2025 (1pm-4pm)
Location: St. Raphael Catholic Church
Signup: Here
The Caring Ministry, along with Father Tom, has approved a "Botanical Walk" Project. Scouts will loosely develop the trail (that runs from the Gulledge Garden to behind/end of the Columbarium). The trail starts at the wooden stairs, where our Scout picnic was held in fall of 2024.
Big picture: This trail will eventually serve as a QR-code education tool to be used by students and the wider community, to identify and learn about the local trees and other vegetation.
Participant Duties:
Leaves will be (mostly) removed from the trail's surface. (Leaf blowers, rakes)
In the area there are several logs and downed branches. These will be placed along the route to outline the trail. This will require a little digging, so the logs don't roll.
The surface of the soil will be scratched to remove any saplings, rocks and other debris that may hinder a comfortable stroll through the trail. These items will be relocated a distance from the trail.
⭐ Note: CONSERVATION HOURS!!!
GO-RALEIGH BUS SHELTER PROJECT:
GoRaleigh, the City of Raleigh's transit program, maintains more than 200 bus shelters in the Raleigh area. Participants in the program assist by removing trash in and around the shelter on a regular basis. Boy Scout Troop 314 has agreed to participate from February 2024 to February 2025.
Location: Falls of Neuse Rd. @ Carlos Dr.
Signup: Here (Jan-March 2025)
Participant Duties:
Remove trash around the shelter and bus stop area.
A Scout will earn 30 minutes of service once he sends the service chair an e-mail (cc'ing a parent or guardian) confirming that he picked up trash. Additionally, if you notice any of the following, include this information in the email as well.
